Enterprise Wide Expiration Settings

Enterprise Admins can now specify the default, minimum and maximum file expiration settings for all users in their SendSafely enterprise portal. These new settings are managed in the Enterprise Console and apply to all packages sent using the web portal, email integrations (Outlook and Gmail) and the API.

Expiration Settings are displayed under the Site Configuration Options section of the Enterprise Console. Values can be set between 1 and 365 days. Items transferred using a Dropzone or Workspaces are not impacted by these settings.

Organizations that use their own Amazon S3 file storage have the option to disable file expiration. For more information on using your own file storage, please see our help center article.

Frequently asked questions

Can admins enforce file expiration limits for all SendSafely users?

Yes. Since 2020, Enterprise Admins have been able to set default, minimum and maximum expiration values (1 to 365 days in the 2020 release) under Site Configuration Options in the Enterprise Console. Users cannot set expiration outside that range.

Which SendSafely transfers do enterprise expiration settings apply to?

In the 2020 release, they applied to packages sent through the web portal, the Outlook and Gmail integrations, and the API, while Dropzone and Workspace items were not affected.

What happens to existing users when an admin sets an expiration range?

Existing users’ defaults are unchanged unless they fall outside the allowed range, in which case they are moved to the closest allowed minimum or maximum. New users inherit the enterprise default.

Do new expiration settings change items already sent?

No. Enterprise expiration settings apply only to new items. Existing items keep the expiration value set when they were created. Users can still change expiration on individual items, but only within the allowed range.

Can file expiration be turned off in SendSafely?

When SendSafely introduced enterprise-wide expiration settings in 2020, organizations that used their own Amazon S3 storage had the option to disable file expiration. The SendSafely FAQ covers using your own S3 bucket.
